As a patient and physician, I thank you.

I’ve had good experiences, but more bad. I tried to make my patients’ experiences good.

There’s a power differential between staff and patients that’s clearly recognized when discussing abuse and harassment; the same applies to pain. Patients have more reason to hide pain than show it. We need to believe patients and treat them. Many of them avoid care they need because they are so traumatized by not being believed and not being treated. In pain medicine, there has always been negligible diversion of medication once you are at legitimate patient level, but the legitimate patients are the ones paying the price.
